Representative Jeffrey Davis Perry to participate in the 4th Annual
“Troops in the Spotlight” Event
State House, Boston - Jeffrey Davis Perry (R-Sandwich) is pleased to announce that he has once again been invited to participate in the “Troops in the Spotlight” event hosted by Cape Cod Cares for the Troops. This is the 4th annual “Troops in the Spotlight” and will be held Memorial Day Weekend at the Kmart Plaza in Hyannis. The event will begin at 11:30am on Sunday, May 25th with an opening ceremony.
The public is invited to attend and bring travel size items for care packages, cards and letters for donation to our troops. The public will also have the opportunity to send a free video message to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, those who attend will observe an F-15 flyover and other military displays designed to honor our troops.
Each year, this event brings attention to those brave men and women fighting overseas and gives the public an outlet to express their support. Starting at noon on Sunday, members from each branch of our armed services will be standing at attention in one hour shifts for the entire twenty four hour period.
The event is organized by 15 year old Dylan DeSilva through his non-profit organization Cape Cod Cares for the Troops. This group was founded in 2004 to honor and support our troops serving in the Global War on Terror. Dylan regularly sends care packages to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over the past four years he has sent over 3,000 care packages. Dylan also sends supplies to schools, orphanages, and medical and dental clinics in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
In a statement, Representative Perry said, “It is an honor to again be asked to participate in this wonderful event. I am delighted to see such an outpouring of support for the men and women in uniform that proudly serve our great Nation. I encourage citizens from across the Cape and beyond to join me and attend.”
The “Troops in the Spotlight” held last year collected over $20,000 in monetary donations and over $80,000 in supplies. This year, the stated goal by the group is to double the amount raised last year.

Representative Perry joins call for State Gasoline Tax Holiday
Boston- Today, State Representative Jeffrey Davis Perry (R-Sandwich) and his Legislative colleagues have filed a bill which will offer the citizens of the Commonwealth a gasoline tax holiday during the height of the travel and tourism season in Massachusetts.
The proposal states that from July 1st, 2008 through September 1st, 2008, the State would not impose an excise tax on the sale of gasoline, which would save consumers 21 cents per gallon. Gasoline prices at the pump continue to rise and are expected to possibly reach $4.00 a gallon by the peak travel season.
At the Federal level, Senator and Presidential hopeful, John McCain (R-Arizona), is also proposing to temporarily eliminate the federal sales tax on gasoline for the summer travel months. The Federal proposals would reduce the Federal tax by 18.4 cents per gallon.
The Massachusetts economy in general, and Cape Cod specifically, is extremely dependent on the travel tourism summer season. Perry feels by potentially combining gas tax reductions at both the State and Federal levels could encourage more people to travel than would have, and provide a much needed boost to the economy during a critical time.

Representative Perry Welcomes Gingrich to Staff
Boston - Today, State Representative Jeffrey Davis Perry (R-Sandwich) is pleased to announce Jonelle Gingrich of Sandwich as the newest full time addition to his legislative staff.
Ms. Gingrich began her political career as a legislative intern for Representative Perry during the summer of 2004, and upon the completion of her internship she continued a close working relationship with the office helping out at special events and interning again in the summer of 2005.
A recent graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., Ms. Gingrich received Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Affairs with a regional concentration of Asia, and Geography. She also completed a minor in Political Science.
While at the University, she was a member of the National College Republicans as well as an active participant in the International Affairs Society as part of the Elliott School of International Affairs. She also completed several internships for various Washington entities.
It was her internships in Representative Perry’s office, however, that brought her back to Massachusetts to start her career as part of Representative Perry’s staff. She will be working in the Massachusetts State House in Boston as well as the District Office in Sandwich. Ms. Gingrich will be assisting primarily with legislative and constituent matters.
The Representative said, “I am very pleased to bring Ms. Gingrich on to the staff. She was impressive while serving two summers as an intern and I have great confidence that she will serve the people of the 5th Barnstable District well.”
“I am looking forward to this opportunity to work with some great hard working people” Ms. Gingrich said, “working with the Representative has always been a rewarding experience for me, and I am very excited to be able to help his political efforts and the people he represents. This is not just a job to me, but the start to a career.”
