Representative Perry Supports Energy Bill

Includes measures to increase conservation and the use of new technologies.

Boston – Representative Jeffrey David Perry (R-Sandwich) voted to approve the Energy Bill that will boost conservation and new technologies.  Under the Bill, energy distributors would have to consider all energy options for power, and electric companies would be required to buy resources based on cost effectiveness and stability, with much needed enforcement mechanisms attached.

Under the Bill that Perry supported, by the year 2020, fossil fuel use in commercial buildings would be reduced by 10 percent from 2007 levels and the State will increase the amount of the electricity it produces from alternative sources such as wind, water and the sun to 15 percent. Total energy consumption would have to decrease at least 10 percent by the year 2017.

Perry is hopeful that the Bill’s passage will prompt utilities to invest more on energy conservation such as insulation and energy efficient lighting systems.  Utilities would be required to pay for such measures when they cost less than buying power from traditional oil, coal or nuclear plants.  The Bill also requires that new schools with heated swimming pools or hot water demands over 1,000 gallons per day will use renewable energy as the primary source for those amenities when feasible. Municipalities would see longer amortization calendars for debts incurred through renewable energy projects.

“The State will also take steps to increase it efficiency with their automotive fleet and overall energy use.  I am pleased the Bill creates a program to provide as much as $10 million a year statewide in technical and financial aid for communities to promote energy efficiency.  This is a positive step for our Commonwealth and our Nation as we work to reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy.”  said Representative Perry.

Perry Announces Summer Intern Team

Boston - State Representative Jeffrey Davis Perry (R-Sandwich) is proud to announce Anna Hineline of Sandwich, Anthony Tsakalos of Sandwich and Josh Prybyla of Boston as his 2008 summer intern team.

Representative Perry’s internship programs consist of semester long internships on Beacon Hill and in the 5th Barnstable District (Sandwich, Barnstable, Bourne, & Mashpee).  Interns are typically responsible for legislative research, bill tracking, drafting of press releases and constituent correspondence.  They may also attend public meetings and conduct surveys to learn what issues are on the minds of the people within the District.  One of Representative Perry's primary goals is to reconnect citizens to their State Government. By allowing college students to participate directly in the legislative process, he hopes to inspire them to be involved long term with their government.

Anna Hineline graduated from Sandwich High School in 2007.  She has been involved with the Town of Sandwich for many years, volunteering for the Cape Cod Challenger Club and working for the Sandwich Community School Aquatics Program.  Ms. Hineline just finished her first year at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York and intends to graduate in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Economics.  After completing her undergraduate work, Ms. Hineline plans to attend graduate school to further pursue her academic interests.

Anthony Tsakalos is a recent graduate of Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts, with a degree in Political Science.  Mr. Tsakalos will begin his first year of law school at New England School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts in the fall of 2008.   Mr. Tsakalos has also been involved with his family's business operations for many years in Sandwich.

Josh Prybyla graduated from Stetson University in Deland, Florida in 2004, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and received a Masters of Business Administration from Stetson University in 2005.  After receiving his degrees from Stetson University, Mr. Prybyla worked in the defense contracting industry as a contract representative for Science Applications International Corporation.  Mr. Prybyla just completed his first year of law school at New England School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts and expects to graduate in the spring of 2010.

"I am very pleased to have such a tremendous team of interns for the summer.  Each will participate in the formal intern program at the State House as well as help with local matters from the District Office in Sandwich.  I look forward to working with these three intelligent young people over the coming months" said Representative Perry from the State House today.
